He liked to say that the art world had been very generous with him. In fact, this gifted artist had the honor of being awarded the Rome Prize and the Prix de la Critique in 1957, and the Casa Velázquez Prize in 1964, which led to his inclusion in some fine and prestigious collections. The painter and engraver also embarked on an official career, becoming president and then perpetual secretary for life of the Académie des Beaux-Arts and curator of the Musée Marmottant-Monet. For our part, with art historian Jacques Busse, we emphasize that ” his paintings are composed of an opposition of light and shadow, from which emerge figures and objects, in a fantastic atmosphere.. ” Many of his works are conserved in museums on both sides of the Atlantic.
