First, we could talk about her as a model: a beautiful young woman with light hair who posed for her aunt, the painter Berthe Morisot, regarded by historians as one of the founders of Impressionism. We know that Paule Gobillard also posed for Renoir, confirming her devotion to the art of painting, which she worked on in her aunt’s studio and in that of Henri Gervex. A truly extraordinary destiny for this Breton born in Quimperlé… All the more so since the writer-poet Paul Valéry became his brother-in-law in 1900! Incredible kinship… The Musée du Petit-Palais in Paris holds one of its most famous paintings: Mme Paul Valéry et son fils Claude. It’s enough to remind us what an excellent artist Paule Gobillard was.
