Albert Decaris (1901-1988)

Albert Decaris studied graphic arts at the école Estienne, then at the Fine Art great school of Paris. Winner of the Prix de Rome in the engraving category at only 18, he is elected at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1943, and then becomes chairman in 1960. In 1962, he is appointed Peintre official de la Marine. The modern artist is also one of the great draughtsman engravers of the postal stamps in France, Monaco, Tunisia and other French speaking countries. He engraved or drew more than 600 stamps, 174 for Metropolitan France.
